Leschi Park swings are back!

Leschi Park swings are back!
Or actually, there are new swings, the oldies have been replaced. I previously reported that the swings had been taken out. I also posted long ago of the old swings, which I really loved.
This new swing set is more in line with the newer playgrounds of Seattle, wood chips and all. They're still fun, in a great place, but lack the olden charm of the previous.

Location of swings: On S. Leschi Pl. right after it comes off of Lake Washington Blvd S.
Number of swings: 2 regular, 1 baby bucket, 1 baby seat
Ground material: Wood chips
Chain length: Long.

How to get there: Bus route #27 takes you right to the park.

NEWS: Leschi Park swings are gone! (UPDATED)

UPDATE 4/9/11: New swings are in! And they're good!

UPDATE 8/22/10: According to Seattle Parks and Recreation, there is a Play Area Safety Program underway (and very behind schedule). The swings in Leschi Park are being replaced, and the ground material is being switched from sand to wood chips. I hope they put good swings in!

Originally posted 8/21/10:

I was riding my bike along Lake Washington Blvd today, and when I decided to make a detour to some of my favo(u)rite swings at Leschi Park, all I found was a taped-off dirt pit:

Are they being replaced? These were older, wonderfully long-chained beauties of swings, and it pains me to see them gone.

I will post updates when I get more information.

Flo Ware Park, Leschi

Check this place out! Located just out of the Central District, climbing the hill into Leschi, the whole playground is covered in the rubbery stuff (is it recycled tires as rumored?) that's at Cal Anderson and other parks. But these swings are better than at Cal Anderson, simply because they are not too close to the ground.

Location: 28th Ave S & S Jackson St.
Number of swings: 2 regular, 2 baby buckets
Ground material: Rubber
Chain length: Medium.

There is an amazing view from here, on a slope in the southern part of town. If you swing facing east, you can scope out the tops of downtown skyscrapers behind a foreground of Seattle's hilly neighborhoods. If you swing facing west, a big red house fills up your entire field of vision.

How to get there: Bus route #14 stops along Jackson St. and route #8 stops along nearby Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Leschi Park, Leschi

UPDATE: These swings have been replaced (4/9/11)

I completed some important swing research recently; it took me through the Central District and towards the lake shore, and I stumbled across Leschi Park (in addition to many other amazing parks that you will see in future posts). Leschi Park is amazing. I had never been to it, as my previous Seattle life lent itself mostly to explorations in the NE section of the city. Leschi Park is adjacent to Frink Park and Lake Washington, and there are lots of beautiful trails in both parks to experience inside-the-forest fantasies and catch some lake views.

These swings are amazing. I love them.

Location: Leschi Park, Leschi neighborhood, on Lake Washington Blvd. Approximately at the corner of E. Yesler Way and 32nd Ave S.
Number of swings: 3 regular, 1 baby bucket
Ground material: Sand

The chains of these swings are long, although not quite as long as the swings at Cowen Park on Ravenna. This seems to be an older swing set, a look into a playground of Seattle's past. Be careful jumping off from high though, at the edges of the sand there is concrete buried approximately 1 inch down. It hurts to land on. Trust me.

When you swing up high, you can see glimpses of Lake Washington through the trees.

How to get there: #27 Bus takes you right to the park.
